Ha Chong-hyun (solo exhibition)

This solo exhibition at Lisson Gallery (24 September-7 November 2026) surveys six decades of work by Ha Chong-hyun (b. 1935), a Hongik University-trained co-founder of the Korean Avant-Garde Association and a key figure associated with the Dansaekhwa movement. It centres on his signature "Conjunction" technique, developed from the early 1970s, in which he pushes paint through the reverse of coarse hemp canvas rather than applying it to the front, letting pressure and material resistance shape the result. Works range from the folded, woven Naissance pieces of the late 1960s through 1970s pieces incorporating burned impasto, springs and barbed wire reflecting Korea's martial-law period, to the early-2000s Post Conjunction series. The show runs alongside a concurrent Ha Chong-hyun retrospective at the Asian Art Museum, San Francisco.
